Netflix and Disney Partner to Share Select Titles with Viewers
Netflix and Disney have struck a new licensing deal that brings select Disney-owned titles to the streaming giant, marking a shift in their competitive dynamic. The agreement includes both seasons of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, based on Rick Riordan's book series, which will be available on Netflix for three months before moving exclusively to Disney+ on November 20 for the Season 3 premiere. The series stars Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, a demigod navigating life at Camp Half-Blood, alongside Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri.
In addition to the Percy Jackson series, all five Ice Age movies are also part of the deal, giving Netflix users a limited-time opportunity to stream them. This move appears to be a strategy by Disney to attract younger audiences ahead of the upcoming theatrical release of Ice Age: Boiling Point in February 2027. The original animation studio behind the franchise, Blue Sky Studios, was closed by Disney in 2021, and a poorly received spin-off was released exclusively on Disney+ in 2022.
