Netflix and Disney+ strike content-sharing deal starting in 2026
In an unexpected turn, Netflix and Disney+ have struck a deal to share content across their platforms. Starting in October 2026 and continuing into early 2027, a curated selection of Disney movies and shows will be available on Netflix. This agreement includes both library titles and current-season TV shows, though it does not cover Disney+'s entire catalog. The first additions include the first two seasons of Percy Jackson and the Olympians and all five Ice Age movies, which began streaming on Netflix on October 4.
Over the coming months, more Disney+ content will make its way to Netflix. Upcoming additions include movies like Soul, Elio, and Raya and the Last Dragon, as well as TV shows such as Felicity, Will Trent, Shifting Gears, and Tracker. The rollout is strategically timed to coincide with new seasons or upcoming releases of these franchises, aiming to attract new viewers to Disney+.
From Disney's perspective, this deal serves multiple purposes. It allows Disney to promote ongoing series and franchises to a broader audience while generating additional revenue from its back catalog. Netflix, on the other hand, benefits from gaining new content to offer its subscribers. The agreement does not include major Disney properties like Star Wars or Marvel, ensuring that Disney+'s crown jewels remain exclusive to its platform.
Analysts view this partnership as a win-win, with both companies leveraging each other's strengths. Netflix gains access to popular content, while Disney expands its reach and maximizes the value of its older shows and movies. Viewers also stand to benefit from having more entertainment options across both streaming services.
