Neutral Colors Reign Supreme Amid Growing Fear of Color Investments

A trend of colorless homes and cars has been observed in recent years, dubbed the 'color recession' by Amogh Dimri, assistant editor at The Atlantic.

According to Dimri, when color becomes less about personal taste and more about investment, people become hesitant to make bold choices. He cites Sherwin-Williams' universal khaki as a prime example of this trend - it's the company's chosen color of the year for the past few decades.

Dimri believes that fear of getting the 'investment wrong' is driving this shift towards more neutral colors. As he put it, 'When color becomes less of an expression of personal taste than an investment, then people are afraid of getting that investment wrong'. The trend shows no signs of slowing down.
