A New Jersey teenager has dropped her lawsuit against social media giants Meta, Google, and Snap just weeks before the case was due to go to trial. The lawsuit, one of three bellwether cases scheduled for October, alleged that these companies deliberately design their platforms to addict young users and fuel a mental health crisis and self-harm.

The plaintiff, identified as P.M-Y, voluntarily dropped her lawsuit without receiving any payment from the defendants. Her attorney, Emizly Jeffcott, stated that she wanted to move on with her life.

META defended its position by saying that the teen had a significant mental health condition pre-dating her use of social media and that many of these cases follow the same pattern.
