Newsom Fires Back at Trump Over 'Iran War Blend' as Gas Prices Remain Elevated

California Governor Gavin Newsom fired back at President Donald Trump and Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Wednesday, criticizing their handling of elevated energy costs due to the ongoing Iran war. The dispute began when Wright blamed California for heightened fuel costs in the state, pointing out that it imports oil from Iraq. However, Newsom's office countered that this was not a cause for national security concerns.

In response, Trump's Energy Secretary Chris Wright used an AI-generated image of Trump changing prices at a Chevron gas station to criticize Newsom, referring to it as the 'Iran war blend' of gasoline in the U.S. Newsom's Press Office shot back on social media platform X, calling Wright a 'Chief Oil Shill' and pointing out that Americans have paid $100 billion in excess fuel costs since the war with Iran began in February 2026.

The national average price of gas was at $4.3672 per gallon on Wednesday, while diesel crossed the $6.3 mark to $6.3103 per gallon. In California, gas commanded an average price of $6.0440 a gallon, while diesel averaged $8.2668 per gallon.
