Eight daily newspapers owned by Alden Global Capital have filed an amended US complaint against OpenAI and Microsoft, accusing them of infringing their copyrights.

The newspapers allege that the tech companies illegally use their articles without permission or proper attribution.

The amended complaint was filed on August 21, 2026. The original lawsuit was filed in March 2024, but has since been updated to include allegations against Microsoft.

The papers are seeking damages and a court order requiring the companies to stop using their copyrighted material without permission.
