Whale Rock Dumps Majority of Nvidia Stake Amid Sector Shakeup
Nvidia's stock price has been on an impressive multiyear run, but one prominent hedge fund is now reducing its stake in the company. Whale Rock Capital Management decreased its Nvidia (NVDA) holding from approximately 1.04 million shares to 377,204 shares in Q2, a reduction of about 64%. This move might be seen as a bearish view on Nvidia's AI infrastructure business, but it's not entirely clear-cut.
Whale Rock also significantly reduced its Broadcom (AVGO) stake and increased its Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) holdings during the same quarter. This could indicate that the fund is reshuffling its AI exposure rather than retreating from the sector altogether. Nvidia has emerged as a leader in computing infrastructure for artificial intelligence, with a market capitalization of over $5 trillion.
Despite the whale-sized reduction in Whale Rock's Nvidia stake, analysts still expect further price appreciation. The average price target is around $304.32 per share, which implies potential upside of 42% from current levels. This suggests that investors shouldn't be too concerned about Whale Rock's decision to scale back its Nvidia holdings.
