NHL Teams Up with Honeywell to Power Energy-Efficient Arenas
The National Hockey League (NHL) has partnered with Honeywell to modernize and create more resilient, energy-efficient arenas across North America. The multi-year global partnership was announced in May, with Honeywell named as the NHL's building automation and energy management partner.
NHL Vice President Innovation & Growth Strategies Omar Mitchell explained that the league has long sought brands and corporate partners that share its values of environmental sustainability and business efficiency. 'We play in a giant refrigerator,' he quipped, noting that ice hockey venues require significant energy usage.
The NHL sees this partnership as strategic for several reasons. Not only can Honeywell's advanced technologies help drive efficiencies and optimizations in arena operations, but they also provide an opportunity to address one of the biggest barriers to entry for young fans: access to equipment and ice time.
