NiDCOM Defends Visa Overstay Claim as Nigerian Detained in India
NiDCOM Defends Claim About Nigerian Detained in India for Visa Overstay
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has defended its claim that a Nigerian, Ekene Vitus Chukwuma, is being detained in India for visa overstay. According to NiDCOM, Chukwuma's Nigerian passport expired in 2020 and he remained in the country without valid documents while conducting business.
NiDCOM criticized a report that quoted Chukwuma as disputing its earlier account of the case, which included the claim that his wife and three children had returned to Nigeria while he remained in India for business. The commission stated that Chukwuma's immigration status cannot be ignored when assessing his case.
NiDCOM urged Nigerians living abroad to comply with the laws of their host countries and called for regular migration. It emphasized that irregular stay is a crime that harms the image of every Nigerian who follows the rules.
