Nigeria is setting its sights on achieving an investment-grade credit rating and re-entering JPMorgan Chase & Co.'s key emerging-market government bond index. Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele highlighted these goals as part of the country's broader strategy to attract more investment and strengthen its capital markets.
The government is also collaborating with MSCI Inc. to include Nigerian equities in its indexes. Oyedele announced this initiative during an event where the Securities and Exchange Commission revealed a 10-year capital-markets plan on Monday.
The push for an investment-grade rating and index inclusion reflects Nigeria's efforts to enhance its financial credibility and draw in global investors. The inclusion in JPMorgan's index could significantly boost Nigeria's visibility and appeal to international bond investors.
