Nigeria is setting its sights on achieving an investment-grade credit rating and re-entering JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s key emerging-market government bond index. Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele announced the goals as part of the country’s broader effort to attract more investment and strengthen its capital markets.
The government is also collaborating with MSCI Inc. to include Nigerian equities in its market gauges. Oyedele shared these plans at an event where the Securities and Exchange Commission revealed a 10-year capital-markets strategy on Monday.
The moves come as Nigeria seeks to enhance its financial standing and deepen investor engagement. The inclusion in JPMorgan’s index and MSCI’s equities gauges could significantly boost Nigeria’s visibility and credibility in global markets.
