Nightmare Eclipse Drops New Exploit After Revealing Identity as Abdelhamid Naceri
The researcher behind a string of high-profile exploits has revealed his identity and released another proof-of-concept exploit for Microsoft Defender. Abdelhamid Naceri, known online as Nightmare Eclipse, published a new PoC exploit called BigDiskBuster over the weekend. The code is designed to prevent Windows Defender from completing its platform and signature updates on all currently supported Windows versions.
Naceri's decision to reveal his identity comes after months of publishing exploits for various security products. He also claims that Microsoft terminated his employment abruptly without providing a clear justification, leading him to challenge the dismissal in a German labor court.
The researcher admits to fabricating previous claims that Microsoft filed legal action against him, and says the emotional and financial fallout from the dispute severely impacted his mental health.
