Nike Faces Business Challenges Despite Strong Brand
Nike's recent financial performance has raised concerns, leading analysts to rate the stock as a Hold. The company's business model is facing challenges, though its brand remains strong. In Q1 FY27, Nike reported a 4% decline in revenue to $11.2 billion. Growth in Performance categories and North America was offset by significant drops in Greater China, Sportswear, and Jordan.
Management anticipates a high-single-digit revenue decline for the full fiscal year, with earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) falling even faster. This suggests that the recovery process will take several more quarters. The company's turnaround plan focuses on rebuilding wholesale partnerships and refocusing on core sports, which could help mitigate some of the losses.
However, local competitors like Anta and Li Ning are gaining market share outside North America, posing additional challenges for Nike. The stock currently trades at a slight premium to Adidas, which may make it less attractive for new investors. Existing holders are advised to stay invested, while new investors should consider starting small and adding to their positions as progress is made.
