Nike's Mixed Quarter: Performance Grows, Sportswear Slumps
Nike's fiscal first-quarter earnings call painted a mixed picture of the company's performance. While some categories, such as Nike Performance, showed growth in the high single digits, others, like Sportswear and Jordan Brand, declined.
CEO Elliott Hill emphasized that the company is prioritizing marketplace health over near-term volume, indicating that Nike is willing to take a short-term hit for long-term gains.
The company's CFO, David Denton, introduced a clearer financial framework, including full-year guidance and a multiyear cost program. He also warned that restructuring pressure will extend into fiscal 2028.
Nike expects its revenue to decline in the high-single-digit range this year, with adjusted earnings per share projected to be between $1.15 and $1.35. The company's guidance assumes Greater China revenue performance worsens from the first-quarter rate as reset actions continue.
Hill highlighted that Nike will reduce selected retro launch volumes and frequency to restore scarcity and improve marketplace balance in Jordan Brand.
