Nike's Performance Portfolio Fuels Growth Amid Pressure in Lifestyle Categories
Nike's first-quarter fiscal 2027 results met expectations as growth in performance categories offset weakness in Sportswear, Jordan Brand, and Greater China. Revenue fell 4% on a reported basis to $11.2 billion, while diluted earnings per share dropped 2% to $0.48.
Nike's President and CEO Elliott Hill attributed the company's success to its performance portfolio, which grew at a high-single-digit rate during the quarter. However, Hill noted that business remains too small to fully counter pressure in lifestyle-oriented categories and China.
Hill emphasized that the sportswear consumer is not one audience, but rather 'a collection of consumers with distinct needs, tastes, and motivations.' To address this, Nike plans to divide its Sportswear business into more focused consumer segments and create differentiated assortments. This shift aims to reduce reliance on a few major franchises.
