Niles Calls Nvidia the AI Trade's Tip of the Spear Amid Market Caution
Dan Niles, founder and portfolio manager at Niles Investment Management, is adopting a more cautious stance on tech stocks amid rising bond yields. He highlighted a growing disconnect between bond and stock markets, warning that one of them may be mispriced. Despite this, Niles remains bullish on Nvidia, calling it the tip of the spear for the AI trade.
Nvidia stands out due to its strong AI growth prospects, reasonable valuation, and potential to gain share among hyperscale customers. Niles praised its efficiency advantage, noting that power constraints could benefit Nvidia as data centers face expansion challenges. He also highlighted Nvidia's valuation, trading at a 16x multiple with 70% revenue growth expected for 2027.
BNP Paribas recently raised its price target on Nvidia to $345, implying over 45% upside from its record high of $237. However, Niles cautioned that falling AI inference prices could pose a risk to revenue growth. He also pointed to declining token spending among major AI providers as a trend to monitor.
Niles remains constructive on Alphabet, Apple, and Meta, citing their efforts to monetize AI spending and control key platforms. He believes that device and operating-system layers may become more important than individual AI applications, benefiting companies like Alphabet and Apple in the long term.
