Ninth Circuit Clears Boeing in Police Helicopter Crash Liability Case

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled in favor of Boeing, dismissing a product liability lawsuit filed by the families of two police officers who were involved in a helicopter crash in 2022. The crash occurred on June 24, 2022, when a Huntington Beach Police Department helicopter crashed, killing one officer and injuring another.

The General Aviation Revitalization Act's (GARA) 18-year statute of repose was cited as the reason for dismissing the lawsuit against Boeing and other aircraft manufacturers. This means that the claims filed by the victims' families are time-barred under this law.
