NJ Data Centre Fined $1 Million for Unpermitted Pollution
A data centre in Vineland, New Jersey, has been fined $1 million by state officials after it was discovered that dozens of unpermitted generators had been running for nearly a year.
The facility, DataOne, is related to Microsoft and began installing the generators in July 2025. By June this year, all 62 were operational, logging over 46,000 hours before inspectors intervened.
Experts estimate that the fleet has already released around 140 tons of nitrogen oxides, pollutants linked to asthma and heart disease, and could emit over 1,500 tons annually at full capacity.
