NJ Sues Amazon Over Driver Pay and Union Suppression

New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport is suing Amazon over alleged underpayment of delivery drivers and anti-union practices. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court for New Jersey, claims that Amazon's market dominance has led to lower wages and harsher working conditions for thousands of drivers in the state.

The complaint alleges that Amazon created a 'monopsony' through its 'Delivery Service Partner' program, where small businesses hire drivers to deliver packages. However, under this system, Amazon controls the drivers' routes, monitors their performance, and dictates the uniforms they wear.

The suit also claims that Amazon has used no-poach agreements to prevent DSPs from recruiting drivers from other companies, making it difficult for them to offer better wages or working conditions. Additionally, Amazon has allegedly suppressed unionization efforts by flying drones over strike sites and installing security cameras.
