NM Lawmakers Urge Apple and Google to Resist Trump's Map Name Change

A group of Democratic lawmakers in New Mexico has asked Apple and Google to keep the state's name as 'New Mexico' on their map platforms. The lawmakers, who include Sens. Ben Ray Luján and Martin Heinrich and Reps. Melanie Stansbury, Teresa Leger Fernández, and Gabe Vasquez, wrote a letter to Apple CEO John Ternus and Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

The request comes after President Trump posted an image on Truth Social showing the state's name changed from 'New Mexico' to 'America.'

The lawmakers argue that changing the state's name would require a constitutional process, not an executive order. They point out that Apple and Google recently changed the name of Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' after Trump requested it.
