NMDOJ Demands Explanation for High PNM Bills Amid Google Data Center Plans
The New Mexico Department of Justice has sent a letter to PNM, requesting an explanation for high customer bills. The utility had informed customers that their bill totals may be estimated due to a meter reader shortage.
Meanwhile, Google is exploring the possibility of building a data center in Lea County, NM, which has sparked reactions from state lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.
New Mexico lawmakers are also considering a proposal to raise the gasoline excise tax from 17¢/gallon to 20¢/gallon. Sen. Roberto 'Bobby' Gonzales (D-Taos) introduced the bill, citing it would generate $57 million per year for New Mexico highway repairs.
