Northrop Grumman and Boeing Demonstrate Automated Teaming Between MQ-4C Triton Drone and P-8A Poseidon Aircraft
Northrop Grumman and Boeing have successfully demonstrated the first automated crewed-uncrewed teaming between the MQ-4C Triton drone and the P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft. The demonstration showcased the ability of the uncrewed Triton to exchange maritime intelligence with the piloted Poseidon through a standardized machine-to-machine interface using artificial intelligence (AI) and an open systems architecture.
The MQ-4C Triton, developed by Northrop Grumman, is a high-altitude long-endurance drone used for maritime reconnaissance. The P-8A Poseidon, developed by Boeing, is a multi-mission aircraft used for anti-surface warfare, maritime patrol, and reconnaissance missions.
The demonstration relied on the Universal Command and Control Interface, a standardized machine-to-machine collaboration protocol based on the Open Mission Systems and Autonomy, Government Reference Architecture. This interface enabled the Triton to exchange mission data with other compatible platforms beyond the P-8A, allowing operators to rapidly integrate systems while reducing associated costs.
