Nscale, a tech company, has reaffirmed its commitment to constructing the UK's largest AI data centre in Loughton, Essex, despite Microsoft's withdrawal from the project. Last year, Nscale announced a £2 billion investment to build and open the pioneering facility. However, the BBC has learned that Microsoft, which had planned to fund a supercomputer at the site, has ended its involvement.
A spokesperson for Nscale stated that the company is exploring alternative power sources for the Essex data centre and is also considering other expansion sites in the UK. They emphasized that their relationship with Microsoft remains strong for other projects overseas. Microsoft declined to comment on the matter.
Nscale's statement underscored their dedication to both the Loughton project and the broader UK market. The company is actively seeking new power solutions to ensure the project's success, despite the setback with Microsoft.
