Nvidia Adds Record $150 Billion to Share Buyback Plan
Nvidia recently announced it will add $150 billion to its share repurchase authorization, bringing the total remaining amount to $235 billion. This move is significant, as it's the largest boost to a buyback authorization in history, surpassing Apple's record of $110 billion set in 2024.
The increase is expected to be spent through fiscal 2028, with management aiming to spend more than $40 billion per quarter over the roughly 16 months left. This would nearly double the current rate of buybacks, which have already risen from $9.7 billion a year ago to around $20 billion in each of the past two quarters.
Nvidia's free cash flow for fiscal 2027's first half was $69.9 billion, 77% higher than a year before, or around $35 billion per quarter. CEO Jensen Huang linked the move to the company's 'cash generation' in the announcement.
