Nvidia and AMD Lobby Trump Administration Over China Chip Export Restrictions

US chipmakers Nvidia and AMD are lobbying the Trump administration to reject proposed limits on their exports to China. The companies, which have ramped up outreach efforts in recent weeks, want the administration to pressure lawmakers to hold off from enacting China-related chip export restrictions in the annual defense policy bill.

The proposed limits have bipartisan support, including from leading Republicans. However, Nvidia and AMD are urging the administration to resist these measures, highlighting deepening divisions over AI regulation in Washington.

The companies' efforts come as they seek to maintain access to China's massive market for their chips. The US Commerce Department has been considering restrictions on exports of certain semiconductor technologies to China due to national security concerns.
