Nvidia and Intel Back Startup's Bid to Revolutionize AI Networking with Optical Connections
CScale, a Silicon Valley startup developing AI networking technology, has raised $145 million in venture capital. The funding round was led by Nvidia and Intel, two industry giants that are already investing heavily in optical connections.
The company's CEO, Martin Lund, explained that the current use of copper cables to connect chips has limitations. 'Copper cables are fast and reliable,' he said, 'but have limited reach.' To overcome this issue, CScale is working on a way to integrate lasers onto the chips, allowing for faster and more reliable connections.
The funding will be used to bring the technology to market by 2028. Existing investors Sutter Hill Ventures and Maverick Silicon also took part in the round, which has brought CScale's total funding to $188 million.
