Nvidia and Microsoft Unite for Local AI Computing Push
Microsoft has announced its first major Windows showcase since May 2024, scheduled for October 7 in San Francisco. The event will feature a conversation on local AI computing and is expected to be more than just a routine update cycle. Satya Nadella, Pavan Davuluri, and Jensen Huang of Nvidia are confirmed speakers.
The invitation frames the event as 'a conversation on how local AI will shape the next chapter of the PC', covering Windows, Nvidia RTX Spark, Surface, and the broader PC ecosystem. The focus is on hardware-centric updates within existing Windows builds rather than a new major version, with Windows 12 not expected.
Nvidia's RTX Spark platform brings workstation-class AI memory and compute into a single laptop-ready module. The chip fuses a 20-core Grace CPU with a Blackwell RTX GPU in a single module, sharing up to 128GB of unified memory and delivering roughly one petaflop of FP4 AI performance.
Dell, Lenovo, and Asus are reportedly developing their own RTX Spark-based devices. Microsoft's Surface Laptop Ultra is expected to receive details at the event, but pricing and availability remain unconfirmed.
