Nvidia and Salesforce Lead Charge as US Stocks Mostly Higher
US stock futures were mostly higher on Thursday as technology stocks, particularly Nvidia and Salesforce, led the charge. The S&P 500 added 0.4% to its all-time high set earlier this month, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 29 points or 0.1%. Nvidia was the standout performer, climbing 7.6% after beating profit and revenue expectations for the latest quarter. The company also gave forecasts for upcoming revenue growth that topped analysts' estimates.
Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang said AI has reached its 'inflection point', with its tokens being productive and profitable. This helped calm concerns about the industry, which had been under pressure due to worries about fading demand for AI chips. Salesforce also reported strong results, jumping 20.7% after saying it saw incredible demand for its AI and data products.
However, not all companies fared well. HP fell 6.7% despite beating profit expectations, while Best Buy sank 4.2% despite topping both profit and revenue estimates. Dollar General rose 6.5% after reporting a stronger profit than expected, but rival Dollar Tree slipped 2.2%. In the bond market, Treasury yields held steady following a report suggesting the US job market remains solid.
