Nvidia and Zayo are teaming up to address the growing shortage of AI network capacity. The two companies say that current infrastructure is struggling to keep pace with rising AI traffic demands.

The market reality, according to Nvidia and Zayo, is that network capacity has become a major constraint on AI growth. They argue that while most providers focus on overbuilding existing routes, AI's long-term growth will also require new infrastructure in areas where demand is emerging.

'The next constraint for AI is not just compute, it is the ability to connect massive, distributed AI infrastructure at scale,' said Dylan Patel, CEO of research firm SemiAnalysis. 'As GPU clusters, AI factories and hyperscaler deployments expand beyond the traditional datacentre hubs, long-haul fibre becomes a critical layer of the AI supply chain.'

Zayo will be building over 8,000 miles of long-haul fibre across emerging AI corridors and expanding capacity across its existing infrastructure. The project aims to deliver six net-new long-haul routes across high-demand markets and address the shortage of connectivity in these areas.
