Nvidia Axes Standard Shield TV, Raises Price of Pro Model
Nvidia is making drastic changes to its Shield TV lineup by discontinuing the standard Shield TV and raising the price of the Shield TV Pro.
This move comes after the standard Shield TV went out of stock in July, with Nvidia initially refusing to confirm whether it would be discontinued. In September, the Shield TV Pro also went out of stock, further fueling speculation about the future of the lineup.
Nvidia has now confirmed that it is discontinuing the standard Shield TV and raising the price of the Shield TV Pro by $100, from $200 to $300. The company cited the rising cost of components due to the ongoing global memory shortage caused by AI demand as the reason for the price hike.
The Shield TV Pro will continue to be produced, but at a higher price point than before. Nvidia has stated that it is stopping production of the standard Shield TV to focus on producing the more popular Shield TV Pro model.
