Nvidia Backs Massive Ohio Data Center Project With OpenAI

Nvidia is partnering with SoftBank-backed SB Energy to develop an massive data center campus in Ohio. The project, which will be leased by OpenAI, will feature 8 gigawatts of computing capacity and will be supported by Nvidia's AI infrastructure.

The campus, located in Pike County, will begin phased deployment in 2028 after Nvidia invests $1.5 billion in SB Energy. The chipmaker will also provide credit support for land, power, and shell capacity covering an initial 4.25 gigawatts with an option to add the remaining 3.75 gigawatts.

Bloomberg reported that Nvidia's total support could reach as much as $105 billion, with OpenAI making lease payments as the campus becomes operational. The project will support 35,000 construction jobs through 2032 and 2,500 long-term positions, in addition to an $80 million community benefits fund.
