Nvidia Backs OpenAI's Ohio Data Center Buildout With $105B Guarantee
Nvidia has guaranteed up to $105 billion in residual-value for OpenAI's Ohio data center campus, which will have an initial capacity of 4.25 GW of IT power and potentially expand to 8 GW with Nvidia as the exclusive AI compute infrastructure provider.
The company made this commitment under a 20-year lease agreement with SB Energy, which will build, own, and operate the campus in Pike County, Ohio. The guarantees are tied to the residual value of the leased infrastructure rather than representing an investment by Nvidia.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described the project as securing long-lived infrastructure for Nvidia compute so OpenAI can deploy productive AI factories that can be upgraded repeatedly with each new generation delivering more intelligence and better economics.
