NVIDIA Board Authorizes Record $150B Share Repurchase Increase
NVIDIA's board has authorized a record-breaking $150B increase to its existing share repurchase program, lifting NVDA stock by 2% to $229.25.
This move marks the largest share repurchase authorization increase in history, according to NVIDIA's statement.
Founder and CEO Jensen Huang tied the decision to what he called a once-in-a-generation platform shift to AI and accelerated computing, stating that 'Our cash generation gives us the capacity to invest in the technologies that advance this transformation and return capital to shareholders.'
The new authorization does not guarantee a steady pace of buying, leaving investors exposed to market pressures. A slow use of the expanded authorization could lend weight to the skeptical view.
NVIDIA's buyback plans are paired with continued investment in AI, supporting the bull view that management sees enough cash to fund both priorities.
