Nvidia is ramping up its investments in Europe's artificial intelligence sector, with a focus on Germany. At the Invest in Germany Summit in Berlin on Monday, the U.S. chipmaker announced plans to back four German startups as part of its nearly $10 billion commitment to the region. The startups, Agile Robots, Avelios Medical, Mirelo, and Reflex Aerospace, operate in sectors ranging from robotics to healthcare and aerospace. However, Nvidia did not disclose the size of the planned investments.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized the importance of AI for the country's economy, urging businesses to embrace the technology. 'Please open your doors for AI to make use of your data,' Merz said, highlighting the potential for AI to integrate into key sectors like manufacturing, machinery, and automotive. He described the data already held by German companies as a 'real secret and a real advantage.'
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang echoed Merz's remarks, emphasizing that AI would augment rather than replace Germany's industrial capabilities. 'AI can only augment your capability, it will not replace your capability,' Huang said, describing the technology as a new instrument for businesses. Nvidia is also expanding its collaboration with the German government's 'Industry 4.0 Platform' to accelerate the adoption of industrial AI.
Earlier on Monday, Siemens announced new AI solutions developed with Nvidia at its factory in Erlangen. The technologies could reduce engineering work by up to 85% and cut production planning costs by as much as 20%. Huang had also visited France last week, announcing investments in four French startups and meeting with President Emmanuel Macron to discuss AI development. He is scheduled to deliver a keynote address in Berlin on Wednesday.
