Nvidia Cancels Orders for RTX 5090 Cards Amid Price Increase Controversy
Nvidia has started canceling orders for RTX 5090 graphics cards placed before a price increase, according to a Redditor's report. The claim came from the Asus ROG subreddit, where a user shared their experience of having an order canceled and receiving a refund. The original order was for an Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 BTF graphics card, priced at $4,429 (or $4,607 after taxes), through Nvidia's marketplace.
The purchaser contacted customer support and was told that the price change update was provided 'a little late,' resulting in the cancellation. Nvidia stated that it tried to get Asus to honor the order but was unable to do so at the previous price rate. The GPU is now listed on Nvidia's website for $4,929.99 before tax, an increase of $500 (or 11.28%).
This follows reports last week of Nvidia price rises at major tech retailers in the United States, including Best Buy and Amazon. While the RTX 5090 Founders Edition still holds an MSRP of $1,999, pricing for this top-spec GPU has reached thousands of dollars more. Third-party pricing data shows that the lowest ever pricing for this high-end Asus ROG card on Amazon to date was $3,289.09.
The market has seen significant price rises in recent times, with memory costs and demand caused by AI contributing to the surge. The current PC hardware market is experiencing strain due to these factors, leading buyers to face high prices for GPUs. With no sign of a market cooldown soon, buyers may see further price hikes in the months ahead.
