House Republican committee leaders have invited Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to a closed-door briefing regarding his reported relationship with a tech executive allegedly linked to Chinese intelligence. The lawmakers, including House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast, expressed concerns over the People's Republic of China's access to sensitive U.S. technology, citing recent reports that raise national security issues.
The letter, dated Wednesday, references a New York Times report that identified Alice Huang, a Chinese citizen and executive at Megaspeed, as funneling information to Beijing. The report also noted that President Donald Trump was briefed on these findings a year ago but chose not to act.
Nvidia responded with a statement asserting that Huang's interactions with Alice Huang were standard business meetings, involving no sensitive trade secrets or national security information. The company emphasized that such meetings are routine for a CEO and expressed confidence in U.S. government oversight.
The lawmakers have scheduled the briefing for November 18, just a day after Nvidia's third-quarter earnings report on November 17. They stressed the importance of investigating the extent of potential risks to U.S. national security posed by China's access to advanced technology.
