Nvidia CEO Opposes Antitrust Relief for AI Firms
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has expressed opposition to antitrust and liability carveouts for AI firms. In an interview, he argued that companies seeking regulation should not also ask for relief from existing laws governing corporate conduct and responsibility.
Huang drew a distinction between broad restrictions on general-purpose AI models and regulation governing products that use the technology. He suggested that autonomous vehicles are an example of an application where additional rules could be warranted, with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration establishing requirements if regulators determine existing safeguards are insufficient.
The Nvidia CEO also maintained that AI developers themselves bear responsibility for testing models before making them publicly available. This stance is significant because Nvidia supplies the computing hardware underpinning much of the advanced AI industry.
