Nvidia CEO Sees Paying $8B in Taxes as Privilege Amid AI Boom
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang wants to reward his employees generously as the company's AI-driven growth generates unprecedented wealth. In an interview, he said that paying workers 'as much as possible' is a consequence of Nvidia's extraordinary success.
The fact that Nvidia can afford to pay $8 billion in U.S. taxes over five years is a privilege, Huang stated, adding that existing laws should be applied first instead of introducing AI-specific regulations. He also dismissed predictions that AI could cause catastrophic harm by the end of the decade as 'doomsday narratives'.
Huang's comments come as chipmakers see their businesses expand multifold, fueling calls from workers for a larger share of the industry's booming profits. In South Korea, employees at Nvidia's key memory suppliers Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix recently secured richer compensation packages after contentious labor negotiations.
