Nvidia CEO Slams Anthropic's AI Safety Antitrust Waiver Proposal
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang dismissed proposals by Anthropic's Dario Amodei for AI safety antitrust waivers, saying they're 'completely unnecessary'. The debate over AI safety has intensified following Amodei's essay proposing that leading labs coordinate to slow down the development of advanced models. This could involve government mediation or exemptions from antitrust laws.
Huang argued that AI companies should be able to solve their own safety challenges without new regulations. 'We have plenty of laws, plenty of regulations governing product reliability and functionality,' he said.
Amodei's three-step approach to moderating model development includes embedding third-party safety evaluators at each lab, democratic and global coordination on safety standards, and limits on unchecked AI progress. He noted that some forms of coordination may require government support due to potential antitrust issues.
