Nvidia Challenger Cornelis Rakes In $205M to Chip Away at Dominance
Cornelis, an AI infrastructure company spun off from Intel in 2020, has raised $205 million in funding to take on Nvidia's dominance in the market. The new capital comes from a round led by IAG Capital Partners and will help Cornelis develop its networking technology for AI chips.
The company's Active Compute Fabric is designed to address the issue of wasted GPU time due to data transfer delays, allowing chips to process and send information simultaneously. This open architecture lets customers use various GPUs and accelerators with Cornelis' networking fabric, competing directly with Nvidia's proprietary software.
Cornelis has already started shipping its product and is working on a new generation expected to be released later this year. The company hopes to break down Nvidia's market dominance 'piece by piece,' or 'chip by chip.'
