Nvidia Delays Kyber Rack Architecture
Nvidia's highly anticipated Kyber rack architecture, designed to house its powerful Rubin Ultra chips, has been delayed by a year, according to SemiAnalysis. The Kyber NVL144 rack was expected to be released in 2027 but will now debut in 2028 due to challenges with manufacturing a key circuit board.
The delay stems from difficulties producing the PCB midplane, which connects electronic modules within the system. As a result, Nvidia has canceled its alternative back-to-back rack architecture, leaving Rubin Ultra with limited scale-up capabilities.
Nvidia's current-generation Rubin chip systems are in full production and will begin shipping this fall to early customers such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.
