Nvidia has invested $3.5 billion in MediaTek, a Taiwanese chipmaker that provides components for local smartphones and computers.

The investment is Nvidia's largest direct bet outside of the US, and it's part of a broader effort to strengthen its position in the AI market.

MediaTek will use Nvidia's NVLink Fusion and NVHBM technology to help components communicate more seamlessly in data centers, deepening collaboration between the two companies.

The agreement also includes a joint announcement from Nvidia and MediaTek on building AI edge-to-cloud computing platforms.
