Nvidia Dominance Raises Red Flags for Physical AI Safety
The field of Physical AI is rapidly advancing, according to entrepreneurs and engineers in the sensors space. However, Nvidia's dominance in GPU technology and software has raised concerns about AI safety and reliability.
Chuck Gershman, co-founder and CEO of Owl Autonomous Imaging, questioned the concept of determinism in AI. He stated that 'using the word determinism and AI in the same sentence is a faux pas. There's no such thing...You never actually know the actual answer. You know what is statistically or probabilistically the best answer, but it's not determinism.'
Gershman emphasized the need for physical AI to advance further before being deployable universally and cost-effective. He noted that Nvidia dominates even the IoT space, making it challenging for other companies to compete.
Other panelists at Sensors Converge 2026 discussed various catalysts behind sensor innovation, including infrastructure challenges and ultra-low power edge AI. Fares Mubarak, CEO of Spark Microsystems, highlighted the need for data to be processed fast, deterministically, and reliably in time.
