Nvidia Dominates Sovereign AI Landscape Despite Growing Competition
As governments worldwide push for data sovereignty and technological independence through sovereign artificial intelligence (AI), a new report highlights that Nvidia remains the dominant force in AI hardware. According to Counterpoint Research, over 92% of more than 170 sovereign AI models across 55 countries rely on Nvidia's AI accelerators.
This concentration is largely due to the widespread adoption of Nvidia's CUDA software platform, which has become the standard development environment for training and deploying large language models worldwide. Despite this dominance, South Korea is actively diversifying its AI semiconductor ecosystem through alternative chip platforms and domestic partnerships.
Korean companies such as Moreh and Upstage are using AMD-based infrastructure to develop and deploy AI models, while Rebellions has formed a strategic partnership with SK Telecom to expand the deployment of locally developed AI inference processors. Globally, other companies like Cerebras, Qualcomm, and Google are also pursuing alternatives to Nvidia.
Nvidia continues to secure multi-billion-dollar AI infrastructure agreements with governments and enterprises worldwide, reinforcing its position at the center of the rapidly expanding sovereign AI landscape.
