Nvidia Faces Antitrust Probe Over $20 Billion Groq Deal

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched an antitrust investigation into Nvidia's $20 billion deal with Groq, alleging that the tech giant structured the arrangement to dodge antitrust review.

Nvidia agreed to pay approximately $20 billion for a non-exclusive license to Groq's inference chip technology in December 2025. The company did not acquire Groq outright but instead hired away its founder and CEO, Jonathan Ross, along with several senior team members.

The deal has raised eyebrows due to the unusually high price paid for a license, with some critics suggesting that Nvidia structured the arrangement to avoid antitrust scrutiny.
