Nvidia Joins Israeli Consortium to Develop Quantum-Secure Network Technologies
Nvidia has joined forces with Israeli companies and academic institutions to develop quantum-secure network technologies. The Post-Quantum Communications (PQC) Consortium, led by cybersecurity firm Allot, aims to create protections against future quantum computing threats across multiple network layers.
The consortium will develop and evaluate technologies based on PQC, which leverages cryptographic algorithms to secure data and communications. It will also explore hybrid approaches combining both PQC and QKD (quantum key distribution) to secure various types of communications, including Ethernet, internet protocol, mobile, data center, and satellite-based communications.
Nvidia's involvement in the group is significant, given its growing interest in quantum computing. The chip giant has already backed several quantum computing developers, including PsiQuantum, QuEra, and Quantinuum. It has also unveiled NVQLink, an open architecture for interconnecting quantum and classical computers.
The PQC Consortium's formation comes as the industry prepares for the transition to quantum-safe communications. Google has set a 2029 deadline for this migration, and Cloudflare has echoed this timeline.
