Nvidia Lands $12.9B Deal for AI Developer Platform Hugging Face

US chipmaker Nvidia has agreed to acquire artificial intelligence (AI) developer platform Hugging Face for around $12.9 billion, according to its founder and CEO Jensen Huang.

Huang announced the acquisition in a statement on Thursday, noting that more than 18 million developers, researchers, and creators use Hugging Face to share over 3 million models, 500,000 datasets, and 1 million applications.

He also highlighted that over 200,000 companies rely on the platform to discover, evaluate, customize, and deploy AI. Huang emphasized that Hugging Face will remain an open platform for the entire AI ecosystem, with Nvidia compute not being required to build on or deploy through it.
