Nvidia manager indicted in AI chip-smuggling case

Taiwanese prosecutors have indicted a senior manager at Nvidia Hong Kong Holdings Ltd.'s Taiwan branch as part of a group accused of smuggling high-end artificial intelligence chips into China through Japan and Indonesia to skirt U.S. trade restrictions.

The alleged smuggling operation, worth billions of dollars' worth of Nvidia hardware, has been ongoing for several years, with U.S. officials claiming that the company's chips have entered China despite being subject to export controls.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has denied any involvement in the smuggling scheme, stating that he has seen no evidence of AI chip smuggling within the company.
