Nvidia Ponders $3 Billion Bet on SoftBank's SB Energy Data Hub
Nvidia is reportedly considering a $3 billion investment in SB Energy, a SoftBank subsidiary that builds power and data-center infrastructure. The money would help back a massive OpenAI data-center project in Ohio.
The proposed deal involves Nvidia splitting its payment into two parts: half when the Ohio agreement is finalized, and the second half when SB Energy goes public. This structure gives Nvidia some protection, as it ties part of the payout to SB Energy actually completing its IPO.
The scale of these energy and data center deals shows why steady investing matters. SB Energy was founded in 2019 and builds large-scale power and data-center infrastructure. OpenAI also backs the company, which is working on multiple data campuses to keep up with rising demand from AI workloads.
