Nvidia Pounces on Hugging Face for $12.9 Billion
Nvidia has agreed to acquire Hugging Face, a leading platform for AI development, in a $12.9 billion deal expected to finalize in the first half of 2027.
The acquisition brings one of the most prominent figureheads in open AI development under Nvidia's purview, expanding the company's reach beyond its hardware and software infrastructure.
Hugging Face is a community for over 18 million developers and power users to come together, collaborate, and share AI models built for various solutions in data science and machine learning. The platform features a massive repository called the Hugging Face Hub, where creators can find and share apps, models, and datasets.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has stated that Hugging Face will remain an open platform for the entire AI ecosystem, allowing developers to choose their preferred models, frameworks, clouds, inference service providers, and computing platforms.
